ASAP Maternity and Family Photos

Cheryl and Steve contacted me on 12/13…Cheryl’s due date is 12/19 and their maternity photographer cancelled on them.

They were very concerned…no, worried… they weren’t going to get maternity photos…they missed the opportunity when Cheryl was pregnant with Evan.

I was able to make time the morning of the 15th…we shot in and around their home for convenience. In 90 minutes we had some gorgeous photos and less than 24 hours later I posted their photos for download on Google Drive!

Happy holidays!

Musician Headshots - NJ Photographer

My backyard in Northern NJ is a great space for outdoor portraits! Fall in particular is a photographic wonderland! I set up one light, use the sun as a back light and the photos are amazing! People love being outside on a beautiful day so I get great, happy expressions too!

When Jason contacted me for head shots I was excited –I had never done musician head shots before! We had a perfect day and lots of laughs and in ~30 minutes a great array of photos for Jason top choose from. Hoping Jason sends from friends my way!

Allison & Steve’s Ringwood State Park eSession

Allison & Steve were referred by some mutual friends. A referral from friends is golden –organic marketing. Friends don’t steer you wrong so couples referred by a friend almost always hire you!

We met in my local Starbuck’s and had a spirited discussion w lots of laughs. Steve is always laughing and his laugh is infectious. Before we knew it an hour had gone by –we finally got to inking the contract.

Allison and Steve’s wedding in 2019 will be at the Art Factory in Paterson, NJ. The Art Factory is a reclaimed textile mill. I have shot some fine art work there in the past. A really cool location –I love their vision.

For their Save the Date / eSession we chose to shoot in Ringwood at the NJ Botanical Gardens and on the grounds of Ringwood Manor. IMHO there is no better place in northern NJ for Fall portraiture! Be advised if you are a photographer you need a permit for paid work…and for that permit you need to provide proof of insurance.

Looking forward to seeing Allison and Steve in 2019 for their wedding!

Debra & Geoff at The Tides Estate!

I met Deb and Geoff over coffee in a DD in Wyckoff. Deb was getting married for the 2nd time, Geoff for the 1st and they were clearly devoted to each other.

I don’t shoot many one photographer weddings but they were on a tight budget and I REALLY liked them and wanted to be there for the wedding. So I crafted a package to fit their needs. We were all so happy to sign the contract.

A few weeks later, it was time for the wedding at The Tides Estate in North Haledon. Loved the venue and it is on 10 minutes from home.

Debra’s adult daughters had poignant things to say about how the love their Mom and are protective of her but knew when they met Geoff that he was the right man for their Mom…and for them.

Love a fairy tale ending –don’t you?

Joss + Lenny’s Backyard Wayne NJ Wedding

I have known Lenny a long time so when he fell madly in love with Joss (and she with him) I was hoping he’d ask me to be their wedding photographer as I have done a lot of photo work for his family…weddings, newborn shoots, family portraits…you name it.

Well they did and I shot the wedding a few days ago in his parent’s backyard in Wayne NJ under a tent.

I was with Joss while she prepared including make-up and hair with the amazing @juliestyles_ (IG). My friend and partner Jed Smith photography attended to photos of the guys getting ready…and everybody grooming the backyard for the wedding.

We had a clear hot day and lots of powerful emotions. A sweet ceremony with hand-written vows in Spanish and we headed off to nearby Packanack Lake for from B&G portraits.

We all partied into the night and crept home dehydrated, content and happy. Love to Joss & Lenny. Looking forward to the newborn session in 39 weeks…LOL!

Cosplay Photo Shoot: A Witcher

My nephew and friend Aaron stopped by our house on the way back home (Jackson, NJ for him) from the NY Renaissance Faire. He wanted to show me the cosplay he was working on and to just stop by.

Aaron is a Witcher –a character from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and the great video game series (best played on PC, BTW).

Thought we could create some cool photos in the light rain so I popped a speed light on a light stand, put a trigger on my Nikon D850 and we headed out for a 10 minute photo shoot.

Considering how little planning and time went into this effort I am pretty excited about how the photos came out. We should revisit this when the cosplay is done. Although I don’t think a cosplay is ever done!

Gets me to thinking…a wedding with swords would be pretty cool, right?

Mary & John Tie the Knot in Middlesex County

Awesome wedding with awesome people. I spent my teenage years in Middlesex county so it was good to be back to shoot a wedding. Mary + John were referred by past clients Kailtin + John (thanks guys!!) and I got to see them at the wedding too.

We had maybe the best day of the Summer so far! Cool with low humidity and brilliant sunshine. Had such a great time with Mary + John’s friends and family –the best of people. I hope there are other family members to yet get married –I wanna hang out w these people again!

Loved the venue and grounds –really quite a gem. Killer band made for a rousing party. Cool working w Chris from Digital Memories –he lives less than 2 miles away from, me and we’d never met before! Jed Smith as always the best photographer I know. Love having you in my corner, brother!

Maternity Shoot in the Gloaming

Happy to be invited to shoot wedding photos for Juanita + David –especially since I was their wedding photographer about 13 mos ago! Such a sweet couple –could not be more polite and pleasant to work with. Joshua is such a good kid!

We shot these photos around (and in) Mt. Hope Pond. We had a very short window on a very hot day but Sol laid down some sweet color on the surface of the pond and we tolerated the heat for ~ an hour to get these photos. Shirt was soaked through with sweat but no regrets! Whole family loves the photos. Who knows…watch this space in about 5 weeks for newborn photos!

Happy 7th Anniversary Megan & Ben! B&G had a beautiful wedding at the Mountainview Manor in Glen Spey, NY. Sadly, I haven’t been back to the venue since. I loved it there!

I think I am more skilled as a wedding photographer than I was 7 years ago. Still there is much I love about these photos! I had a great rapport with Megan + Ben having shot a sunset eSession at the NJ Botanical Garden in Ringwood, NJ. It is great working with lovely, sweet people!

Magicicada Brood VII - Onondaga Hill, NY

When I was a little kid, I had a small insect field guide. In that guide was a photo of the red-eye periodical cicada (Magicicada spp). Plying the alleyways and infrequent parks of Jersey City, NJ I never did see one. When I turned 14, we moved to the ‘burbs. Carteret, NJ. Seemed like the country to my brother and I. Much more green and more opportunities to check off more insects in my field guide!

When I was 15, I finally met the periodical Cicada! Some Brood II specimens emerged in my parent backyard. I was thrilled to finally see them. The population was small. None of the loud chorusing you hear where there are huge, dense populations.

Not everyone was so excited. I was talking with my friend Brian. A magicicada landed near his feet on my patio. He lifted his foot to stomp on it.

OMG no,” I screamed and pushed him away. I told him of it’s long, dark life sucking juice out of roots for 17 years and it’s short weeks in the sun, singing to find a mate. I gently picked up the cicada and tossed it into the air. It took flight in a gentle upward arc, the sunlight shimmered upon it’s gossamer wings. Then a bird swooped down and ate it. Ces’t la vie, eh?

Anyway I have seen a few broods in different states over the years and when I learned that Brood VII would be emerging south of Syracuse around Onondaga Hill, NY, I knew I’d have to make the trip. I first tried on a vacant lot but was chased away by local residents. I then contacted Saul, owner of Griffin Hill Brewery as I has seen a story about Cicadas on his property.

Saul was incredibly gracious –I spent a few hours wandering his property photographing this most intriguing insect.

Before I left a shot a few family portraits and bought some beer which I have yet to imbibe.

A most worthy odyssey.

Mallory Pearl - Bergen County Baby Photographers

On July 2nd, 2016 I shot Andrea + Sean’s wedding! it was my 1st Marine wedding and it was a blast. OORAH!!

I was excited to hear from Andrea recently –even more excited when she asked me over to her Mom’s in my neighboring town of Wyckoff, NJ to take some photos of her and her 7 month-old baby girl Mallory Pearl! How cute is that name?!

I had Mom, Aunt Allie and Grandma all helping me keep Mallory happy and looking my way. We had so much fun! Only had planned on the tub shot –everything else I improvised on the fly. I was inspired by the all the love.

Thanks ladies –next time we gotta include Sean!

10 Day Old Luca Alexander

So happy for Daisy + Luis  –so happy to be taking photos of their growing family. Luca Alexander is so beautiful and the way his big brother Damian kisses him and sweetly talks to him to soothe him. It is so sweet. Love the photo of the boys together most of all…I bet Daisy and Luis will too!

After taking photos of the boys, I set up a light and a beauty dish outside for some family photos. We heard a big ruckus in the shrubs at the back of their yard and a 300+ pound bear emerged. As soon as he saw us he made a hard right and I didn’t have a good angle for a photo. From quite a distance away I grabbed a shot of the bear crossing the street.

Surprise Marriage Proposal Photographer

My photo partner Jed
asked me to shoot his surprise wedding proposal to Amy on Saturday, 3/31/2018. I
was excited, honored and a little bit nervous. Though we scouted the Central
Park location a week ago, Jed was so nervous he was facing the wrong way
when he asked…maybe that was best as I got a great photo of Amy’s surprise.

Jed was pretending to get ready for a family shoot. Pulled his camera
out of the bag to take some test shots w Amy and danging from his lens
was a ribbon and engagement ring. At first Amy thought is was vegetation
hanging from his lens then she saw the sparkler!!

Meanwhile I was
wearing a hoodie w hood pulled down so that Amy wouldn’t recognize me.
She thought I was some shady guy looking to get close and steal Jed’s
backpack!

So cool to have been a part of this! Love to you both!

Soccer Sports Photographer

Had a great time shooting the 1st ever Indian Hills HS alumni soccer event.

The IHHS Soccer Coach, Mike Calderon, is brother to long-time client Daisy Calderon so I have met Mike a few times already including Daisy’s Costa Rica wedding!

Anyway, I had a 300mm f/2.8 lens on loan from Nikon that I was to take whale watching…lens was perfect for shooting these matches as well.

I am not a big sports fan but taking photos of the event was great fun. Hopefully we can do it again next year!

Your Life Photographer

I have taken photos with and for Daisy and Luis and family many times. Engagement. Costa Rica wedding. Maternity photos. Newborn photos. Birthday photos. Family photos. Holiday photos. You name it! I love them for trusting me so many times.

When Daisy told me she was pregnant again I was excited to learn they were going to hire me again, but just for newborn photos. I knew they likely wanted some maternity/family photos with their son Damian while they were still a family of 3.

Next snowfall, I texted Daisy with the idea of a quick shoot during the snowfall by the Ramapo River. Close to where I shot their engagement photos.

They came right over –arrived as I was finishing shoveling my driveway.

I brought my Nikon D5, 85mm f/1.4 lens and one off-camera flash which I covered in a plastic bag to keep it dry as it snowed.

We only shot for 15 minutes. It was a little cold, and Damian was getting bored.

That being said, we caught some sweetness. The lack of color in the Winter landscape led me to convert them all to B&W.

Love my clients.

Love your clients. They will love you back.
